After successfully creating a Win XP Service:

C:\>sc.exe create "Sambar Server" binPath= "C:\Program Files\sambar64\bin\server.exe"
[SC] CreateService SUCCESS

When I attempt to start the service I get the following error:
C:\>sc.exe start "Sambar Server"
[SC] StartService FAILED 1053:

"The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Can anyone help me w/ this?
tks -albert

Aha, I remembered I use the SRVANY.EXE utility to run sambar as a service so we're good in that respect and the parameters check out correctly in the registry however I still have to manually start the exe each time I reboot.

Albert,

please remove the service you have installed using SRVANY.exe as Sambar has it's own service utility.

To create the Sambar service, do the following 2 steps

In a Dos box go to \sambar\bin
type: ntserver -i (for installing the service)
you will get a note that the service is installed

If you want to know all options of the service installer, type
ntserver

To configure the service start options:
XP Control Panel > Admin tools > services

Do not forget to add ntserver.exe to the exceptions in your XP firewall, or it will be invisible from outside the local domain.
