Hi everyone, sorry to burst in straight away with a question but i'm stuck on this big time,

I have 2 domains and want them to point to 1, I also want all URL posibilities to resolve to 1

In a nutshell I want to just have www.yourdomain.com and want to redirect all these below to that...

yourdomain.co.uk = www.yourdomain.com
www.yourdomain.co.uk = www.yourdomain.com
yourdomain.com = www.yourdomain.com

the domain also has a secure cert so I also want all https to be redirected to https://www.yourdomain.com

I have tried what seems to me as what it should be but it doesn't seem to work hence my plea here

any ideas please?

does not work ???

why you don't use sambars vhost-feature? for all domains you want to use you set up the same root-folder..or you take care that all domain points to the same ip, than the standard-host will always be used.

PS: on the other side: if i understand the redirects-feature right, than it will only be used inside your intranet.

I agree with ronald. Setting up virtual hosts is probably your best bet. If you want all queries to resolve to the "www.yourdomain.com" address, I'd set up two directories. One for the yourdomain.com site, and then another site with a redirect page to the main site. When setting up the virtual hosts, point all of the other URLs to the redirect site.

Your domain registrar may offer a redirect option as well.

you don't need to talk to your registrar when you have access to dns- and name-server. most registrars gain there users a web-based access to that. all what you have to do is, let both domain points to the same ip and all you problems should be done.

but remember to have a security cert that includes all your domains. if they are any differences you(r) (users) will get on every access a security message from browser.

Set up a virtual domain and have the name reflect all the domains you want to redirect to that domain in there with wildcard.

Example:

Virtual domain on my server:
*cte.schrijft.net *cte_tram.schrijft.net *ctetram.schrijft.net *cte-tram.schrijft.net

Every domain variation setup in DNS on above subdomains (with anything in front of it like www. or ftp. will redirect to the same virtual domain.

You can add the "RedirectSSL" option via the .htaccess file:

"options RedirectSSL"

To redirect all traffic to the folder the htaccess file is in - to force to SSL (https)

Yah! Sambar Server rocks!!
