Of couse you can run the apache from the LAN. The only thing you have to make is free port 80 in the firewall! Than you can access apache by the LAN IP.

i see everyone talking about routers and port 80.. ahh.. They make it sound so difficult.. I don't have access to the router system. I am just in my dorm room in Taiwan and I want my family and friends to view a simple web site that has pics and such back in the states.. I don't want to have to upload all my media on free website host. o right now I can access the site on my computer using the DNS site name that the provider gave to me..but when I try to view it from other computers.. nothing... and thanks for the last reply.. Shocked i have so much to learn

ping yourself by the name of your PC

e.g.
Code:

ping mypc

if you need your IP from the outside which one your provider give you.
Check http://jamesblond.ja.funpic.de/ip.php
One of these two adresses must run from your friends! if not there is no port forwadring from the router to your PC
