Hi,
I am trying to set up a Web Server. I will briefly describe the setup I have, and hopefully someone can help me.
I have installed "WampServer2" on a Windows Server 2008 machine. Onto WAMP, I've installed Drupal. I haven't changed much in the way of default settings. I have managed to install the Drupal instance on the server itself, but if I try access it from outside I get nothing. So...
Can you please tell me what CONF files in apache I need to change i.e. httpd, vhost?? And what I need to change within those files?
I set the server up as localhost on the workgroup, I haven't promoted it to it's own domain because I hope to host a number of websites on the server. Is this a problem?
I really hope to get this working, so any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi nigelivy,
I'm fairly new to Apache, but run a WAMP server, installed as separate apps. It relies heavily on 'named-based virtual hosts', which is what you need to host several websites on one server ie using one IP address. Details here:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/vhosts/
You say you can't access the server 'from outside'; do you mean by typing 'http://what.your.wanip.is' into a web browser?
Do you have a fixed wan ip address? If not, do you have a dynamic dns service which will automatically translate 'http://some_domain_name' into 'http://what.your.wanip.nowis'?
Have you opened/forwarded the necessary ports (80, 443) in your router/firewalls? |
