Sorry to stick my nose in here but you still are not grasping the concept of AdrianK's post that begins with (4), and he posted the better explained version from 2.4 docs than the more confusing one in the 2.2 docs.

Your config was kind of hard to get a grasp on since it is so unusually laid out. Pretty looking but unusual none the less from the standard layout today Smile It reminds me of a mish-mash between the really old single file which began in 1.3.4 if I remember correctly, the even older 3 file prior to that and the new multi file style that began I think in 2.0, if not 2.0 certainly it was 2.2.

I'm going to take your apaste post, make just a slight modification with comments and post in a separate apaste to keep yours clean for AdrianK whom has kindly and patiently done the all of the work with you and your problem so far. Credit given where credit is certainly due.

Let me say you are close, ever so close. I have a question about tasks.associationresources.com in httpd-default.conf however. Do you plan to actually use it? Either way it will not change my suggestion much however.

All I did was down near the end of httpd.conf after the Listen directives so httpd.conf is all I posted.

Thanks GLSmith,

I appreciate ALL the help I can get from Adrian and you and anyone else on the troubling config (for me). FYI - I'm an AIX/Linux System Admin for 20+ years now and this config for a non-profit has stumped me. Its converting an IP based virtual server config on Windoze to a Named based. The reason for the shortened "pretty" config file is to help me understand what the orginal person is/was trying to do to make it work. I prettied it up
in an attempt to understand as much as I could.

Even with your change (btw - you mistyped the <virtualhost> closing) it still responds the same. When apache is started with this new config when I access one of the sites the only thing I receive in response it the comment:
Page index.html

To me it doesn't appear to be the content of any file but a notice that the named file has been reached or will be displayed(???).

Also, as you most likely figured out - the long config is the mish-mash of the four config files merged into one stream. And I'm using the names
beginning with "x" to keep them separate from the live files for testing.

I'm not sure if Apache acts differently on Windows server vs Linux but much of the directory structure is different that *nix which adds to my confusion.

So again, anything else you can help with will be greatly appreciated.

BTW - Sun Diego is one of my favorite cities in our country. I'm located midway between NYC and Boston in much too snowy New England.

Thanks Question Question

I noticed that and now I'm wondering if this is why there's been no change. Apache is hard-coded to look for httpd.conf and nothing more. It is compiled that way as you could see with httpd -V.

I got to run at the moment but I'll look over your config again later, maybe something is missing.

Hello Adrian and GLSmith,
Just in case either of you wish to reference the original Windows apache configuration files I am trying to convert I've posted them to http://apaste.info/6tY in a zip format.

I appreciate any advice/suggestions either of you can offer as I attempt to get this IP based config converted to a name based config.

If either of you need additional information or have a question please do not hesitate to query.

Thanks
