Considering that VC10 is hardly downloaded/used, planning not to upgrade VC10 anymore.

What do you think ?

What is the reason you need VC10 and not VC11/14 ?

It is basically XP SP 3 and has updates till May 2019. I did not know that.

It is for commercial use ? I shall think about it.

On that platform Gregg's VC9 builds will be running fine:

I know Apache Haus, but I have been using the Apache Lounge for years.
It is regrettable that it can not be used.

Are you using PHP as well? If so, do you upgrade or stay at the latest 5.4 build?

I've dropped the support for VC10 a couple of months ago. Building my Setups just for VC11 / VC14 to reduce the effort.

I now see V10 support is no longer available. Is this decision drop final?

I still use V10 on my Windows 2008 R2 boxes. This machines were installed few years back and Apache httpd with V10 was installed. I see V14 is also supported on server's operating system, but what I see troubling is V14 requires new version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package. Why? Any installation on existing system may break exiting installations, but this boxes are very sensitive - they just must work without downtime - installing any kind of additional software poses the risk of breaking something and reverting back to previous software state is often not simple.

It is demanded to not install any additional software (except urgent security fixes) on this boxes.

I like only to upgrade Apache httpd on this boxes. There is no install, just unzip and copy/paste the config files - so if something goes wrong, I can very quickly revert back to older version. For security reasons I like to keep my Apache httpd up to date.

It would be nice if decision to drop some support are announced few months before change happens, to prevent instant (probably bad) decisions made in our (and probably others) organization, like not upgrading Apache httpd anymore.

Just wondering is decision to drop V10 final?

I am voting (if this counts) to keep it.

Regards

On our machines it is installed Apache httpd VC10 and also required Microsoft Visual C++ 2010.

Is VC14 working without installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2015? That is my main complain.

You only have to install the VC14 redistributables (X86 & X64), not the complete Visual C++ 2015. Apache VC14 runs flawlessly on Windows 2008 R2. I have it running on my own servers.

Sorry for bad wording I thought about "Redistributable Package" as explained in my pre-previous post. I know that whole Microsoft Visual C++ is not required. But I think installing any software including "Redistributable Package" may influence on stability of computer and that is my idea of complain.

In my experience it does not influence stability. I have a development 2008 R2 server with Apache VC9, Apache VC11 and Apache VC14 besides one another (on different IPv4 IP's), all with their respective redistributables.

@Jan-E, I am actually more worried about stability of other (very business important) software on this boxes and the negative effect that may installing new version of "Redistibutable Package" have effect on.

As far as I know the redistributable packages add a lot of files, but do not change any existing files. But if you are that anxious about system stability, you really should have a development 2008 R2 server.

Ok, counting the requests for 2.4 VC10. Till now only 3 !

This compared to the huge amounts of other downloads:

I think it is time to remove the 2.4 VC10 builds.

The latest 2.4.23 stays on the additional download page.

ps.
If you really desperate need it, contact me.

Hi Steffen! Is it technically possible to compile recent Apache builds using Visual Studio 2010? Those who can't afford switching from NT 5.* platform would be much obliged!
