Ok that means that ApacheLounge gets the apache source when the source has been voted positive which could be much before the date apache actually releases to apache.org?

Also, what was the answer for maintainability of apache 2.2 releases going forward?

I think this should answer both questions as to when the source can be acquired and about 2.2 looking ahead into the future. Realize that there can be no release till the voting is called passed. Not every version ultimately gets released.

'just maintenance' usually means just security related fixes.

If you are looking to hang onto 2.2 for years to come, take the plunge and start getting to know 2.4 as it is the shiny new car and is going to see more love from the developers than 2.2 will.

You can get the source code at any time. See http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/httpd/httpd/ and take a look at the tags. There you see any released version of apache. That so called tagging of a version is before the voting. There are no more changes on the source code in that tagged version.
