I have been trying to install Apache for 5 days now. My hair is greasy, I hav'nt got much sleep, and I'm cranky. My wife thinks I am a fruitcake!
Come to think of it alot of people think I'm a fruitcake. mmmm?

Anyway, I installed the binary version of 2.2.4. Installation seemed to have went as planned. I installed Apache as a service. Apache did not fire up automatically. I tried to fire it up manually. It tries to fire and then takes a dump. I do not have IIS installed, I disabled my firewalls. No dice.
Since my knowledge is limited I am about at the end of my rope. I even tried to redirect to port 8080. No dice. I have countless emails and postings out there. NO RESPONDO.
All I want to do is learn PHP and I can't even get the server started.
It is also hampering the progress of my website. I really don't want to upload every time I want to view my PHP script. Can someone help?
I am running XP on a HP Laptop.
Here is the error log.
[Tue Mar 06 09:28:36 2007] [notice] Apache/2.2.4 (Win32) configured -- resuming normal operations
[Tue Mar 06 09:28:36 2007] [notice] Server built: Jan 9 2007 23:17:20

[Tue Mar 06 09:28:36 2007] [crit] (OS 10022)An invalid argument was supplied. : Child 4076: setup_inherited_listeners(), WSASocket failed to open the inherited socket.
[Tue Mar 06 09:28:36 2007] [crit] Parent: child process exited with status 3 -- Aborting.

Thanks for the help.

This looks very much like Apache Bug 31765.

Some suggestions from this bug:
