Hi everyone. I am so ashamed to be asking this. I'm new to all of this and am having a huge problem installing Apache on my Windows Vista machine. Here's the issue in a nutshell. I go to Apache.org and I download the file as a .zip. I double click the .zip file expecting the installer to begin and all I get is a view of the various file folders inside the .zip. I've been all through the folders and there are no setup or install files, and there are also no folders such as http. So my question is... what am I supposed to do with this? Do I extract it to my harddrive and that's the server? How does it actually get installed in Vista so I can run it as a service? I'm totally lost.

You only have to extract all of the zip file and start httpd.exe in the bin folder.
But if you don't have any clue what all that stuff means to you, you can download an msi installer. That installer will also create some usefull shortcuts in the menu. Make sure that you run that setup as Adminisrtator.

In this forum we have a great tutorial how to set up apache from a zip file and also how to install PHP in apache.

i think you have downloaded the source code. You can download apache.zip file from http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/win32/

TO James Blond
As of Apache 2.2.6 i cant find the msi file on the apache download page.
Only the win32 source file is there.
