Hello all,
I'm new to using Apache (using httpd-2.2.17-win32-x86-openssl-0.9.8o.msi) and I am very excited Very Happy . I installed it on Windows 7 and ran it. I got to where I can enter loopback (127.0.0.1) or http://localhost into my internet browser and recieve the page "it works" Very Happy Exclamation .

I noticed that the domain name I want to use to create a website still has the godaddy page with ads. I logged into go daddy and it wanted (required) two nameservers? Confused

I am confused because I had just setup an apache server. I used the registered domain name in the Apache setup process when apache asked for server name (www.registereddomainname.com) and network domain name (registereddomainname.com).

Im not sure what I am to do next to get my Apache server to host the website at the registered domain name.

Sounds like you need to create DNS records over at GoDaddy, and if the do not supply DNS services to their customers you will need to find a DNS service that does.

Hopefully someone here that uses GoDaddy can explain this in detail, or at least confirm that they do, or do not provide this service to their customers.

Looking through their site it looks as if they do not. So you will need to find a DNS service, there are a few and they are free, with some limitations.

ZoneEddit.com
dnsexit.com
Sitelutions.com

I've used all, the last one has really restricted free accounts and maqy move what I have there off of them.

If your Wan IP is dynamic, you will need to use Dynamic DNS, all three of the above place provide it.

This is really old, but there is useful info here on setiing up DNS with a DNS Service like Zoneedit.

http://www.dslwebserver.com/

Go to the Step By Step, there is a section titled DNS, setting up your zpne with Zoneedit & adding subdomains at ZoneEdit, it explains things, includes screencaps of the old Zoneedit site. This is close to how it is with most of them but the records are same. A, CNAME, MX, these you will need to understand what is used for what, that site should help some.
