No sooner does the AL publish a new release, than one of the support dependencies gets updated!

ZLIB release 1.4 contains a number of security fixes, as well as bug fixes. However, with this release it would seem ZLIB have decided to change their Windows library file naming convention again. We now have a 'lib' prefix, viz:
Code:
    1.3.1                1.3.2             1.4
    -----                -----             -----
    bin\zlib1.dll        bin\z.dll         bin\libz.dll
    lib\zlib.lib         lib\z.lib         lib\libz.lib
    lib\zlibstatic.lib   lib\zs.lib        lib\libzs.lib

This change in naming convention previously caused some grief for packages using ZLIB, and has been the subject of posts on this site, as much as a lengthy discussion at https://github.com/madler/zlib/issues/1181

The impact on other packages finding ZLIB libraries is the key issue, but shouldn't affect building Apache with CMake, with the exception of changing configure option --with-zlib-lib when building OpenSSL.

Indeed, I've just tried rebuilding OpenSSL with options "zlib-dynamic --with-zlib-lib=libz", and then confirmed that a test program using OpenSSL function 'BIO_f_zlib' from library libcrypto-3-x64.dll, duly opens C:\Apache24\bin\libz.dll

The curl build also picks up this revised libary:
Code:
C:\Apache24\bin>curl -V
curl 8.23.0 (Windows) libcurl/8.23.0 OpenSSL/3.5.9 zlib/1.4 brotli/1.2.1 zstd/1.5.7 nghttp2/1.71.0 ngtcp2/1.25.0 nghttp3/1.18.0 WinLDAP
Release-Date: 2026-10-14
Protocols: dict file ftp ftps gopher gophers http https imap imaps ipfs ipns ldap ldaps mqtt mqtts pop3 pop3s rtsp smtp smtps telnet tftp ws wss
Features: alt-svc AsynchDNS brotli HSTS HTTP2 HTTP3 HTTPS-proxy IPv6 Kerberos Largefile libz NativeCA NTLM SPNEGO SSL SSPI threadsafe Unicode UnixSockets zstd

So going forward, minimal build changes should be needed to accommodate this later version of ZLIB.
